Estate planning, probate & elder law in Fort Lauderdale

Home/About John Clarke
About the firmA former ER nurse turned attorney, John Clarke has helped South Florida families plan their estates, protect their assets, and settle probate since 2015, and you work with him directly, start to finish.
“Law is my passion. I enjoy using my legal knowledge to help people plan for their future.”
John recognized early in life how much a good plan matters. In law school, the courses he enjoyed most were wills and trusts, and that interest became his focus: helping people protect their families and their legacies.
He takes a holistic, client-first approach. Before drafting anything, he learns your whole picture, your finances, your goals, and your family, often working alongside your accountant or financial planner. Then he walks you through the options. His work includes living trusts, enhanced life estate (Lady Bird) deeds, wills, living wills, durable powers of attorney, and deed preparation, always with an eye toward keeping your family out of probate and minimizing taxes.
For clients with more to protect, John builds asset protection into the plan. He advises on Florida's homestead exemption and on holding investment properties in separate entities, such as multi-member LLCs and limited liability limited partnerships, to keep them out of reach of creditors.
John took an unusual road to the law. He earned a philosophy degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Miami in 1995, then earned a Cambridge certificate in teaching English and spent ten months teaching in Jakarta and Surabaya, Indonesia, traveling through India, Malaysia, and Singapore along the way. He worked in real estate, and in 2007 became a registered nurse, spending five years in South Florida hospitals including Mount Sinai Medical Center of Miami Beach. Those years as a caregiver shaped how he practices today. He entered the University of Florida College of Law in 2012, graduated cum laude in 2015, passed the Florida Bar that August, and has built his solo practice in Fort Lauderdale ever since.
When you call Clarke Law, you reach John directly, not a call center and not a junior associate. He lives in Hollywood with his dog Taylor, enjoys travel, the outdoors, and playing piano, and stays active in the community, including the Broward Coalition on Aging.
John's memberships, education, and background reflect a deep commitment to excellence, ethics, and real results for his clients.
